Cobequid rolls to fourth straight tournament victory
The Cobequid Cougars boys’ volleyball team continued its winning ways at the annual Dalhousie University High School Challenge.
The Cougars defeated familiar foe Par-en-Bas Sharks 25-23, 25-16 in the final to capture gold.
The Cougars went undefeated in round-robin match play with wins over Sackville (25-16, 17-25, 15-9), Par-en-Bas (25-18, 25-20) and Summerside’s Three Oaks (25-16, 25-18).
In a quarter-final, CEC defeated Horton (25-8, 25-17), before disposing of Three Oaks in a semifinal (25-15, 25-16).
Ryan McEachren was selected as tournament all-star and Thomas Vickers was named tournament MVP.
CEC contributions came from McEachren, with a season high 82 per cent passing, Sam Lilly (74 per cent passing, 19 kills), Vickers (73 per cent passing, 17 aces, 22 digs), Sean Gallie (six block points, team high 22 per cent kill efficiency) and Adam McEachren (57 per cent serving toughness, 14.0 dig to error ratio).
The Cougars have won all four tournaments they have entered this season.
Next up for CEC is the Wall of Fame Cup in Charlottetown this weekend.
