Annie Mae Fields
Fields, Annie Mae, 78, Shortt’s Lake passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Beaverbrook, N.S. to the late E. Smith and Hazel (Burgess) Loughead.
She is survived by her children, Gregory (Joanne), Shortt’s Lake, Tammy (Basil), Truro, Michael ( Sharon), Shortt’s Lake (Step-daughter) Linda Elms, Truro; grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Shanea, Eric, Mikael and (step-grandson) Christopher; nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by the love of her life and soul mate, Donald; brothers, Homer, Eugene, Edgar, Smith (Jr) and sister, Lillian.
Those who knew “Ma Fields/grammie” knew her as someone who always supported her family no matter what. Just ask many of the umpires in Nova Scotia how they felt if they were to make a bad call on one of her children. It was without question her favourite spot in the world was the cottage and lake. It was a must that she could see the lake at all times from the house. Just ask Donnie how many times he had to cut the trees down over the years to make sure this happened.
After working at Kerr Controls in the accounting department, she devoted her time to her true passion, her family. She could be found running here and there to any event that her children were in and she did not miss many.
On weekends Ma and Pa Fields could be found two stepping late into the evening which would likely result in her driving her “biggest kid” home at the end of the night. As the years passed, this part may have changed but one thing did not — at the end of the day she really was “The Boss” and everyone knew that.
Not needing to surround herself with many material things, gifts from the heart were what she loved. Crafts, hand drawn pictures, and homemade paintings would always bring out the loudest “oohs and ahhs” from her, especially if they were done by her grandkids. All you have to do is look anywhere in the house and you will see years and years and years of this.
Ma’s greatest achievement and what brought great joy to her life was hearing about the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and family whether they were big or small. She was always beyond proud and listened with an open ear and big smile.
The family would like to thank Dr. Nadour and the nurses of the ICU for the kind and gentle care. Cremation has taken place with no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VON.
