A cheque for $50,000 was presented to the Scotia Pool Society on Tuesday.

Nova Scotia Minister of Agriculture Keith Colwell and Deputy Premier Karen Casey were at the Scotia/ Glen W. Smith Pool to announce the funding for infrastructure improvements.

Glenda Bower, chair of the Scotia Pool Society, said the funding will help finish work being done to the brick on the exterior of the 45-year-old building.

She noted that volunteers have been working hard to ensure the pool would continue to operate.

“The province is pleased to add our support to this community’s drive to provide ongoing opportunities for health promotion,” said Colwell.

The facility is leased, by the province, to the Scotia Pool Society for $1 a year, and volunteers raise funds for operational costs. The society has been operating the 25-metre pool since 1999, and currently has a lease that expires in 2035.
