Better daycare on the way
TRURO, N.S. — The province is stepping up oversight of daycare programs to ensure families in Truro and elsewhere in Nova Scotia receive a fair deal.
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will have more authority over inspections carried out by family home daycare agencies. Family home child care agencies provide support and accountability to approved family home child care providers. Regulated family home child care is o ered by individuals who are approved under a licensed family home child care agency. Approved family home child care providers can provide care for up to seven children of mixed ages, or nine children if they are all school-age. Approved family home child care providers must follow provincial regulations and are regularly monitored and inspected. The province is also renaming he Day Care Act as the Early Learning and Child Care Act and updating its de nitions.
