Council approves bid to replace leaky roof at balefill facility
A Truro company has won the tender to replace the roof at Colchester County’s balefill office in Kemptown.
Fosco Roofing Ltd., in the Truro Business Park, won the tender over two other companies with a bid of $26,266 to replace the existing steel roof with an EP DM membrane.
The other companies, TML Construction and Flagship Construction, each provided bids for steel roofing.
TML provided a bid of $33,062.50 while Flagship’s quotation came in at $109,480.
None of the three bids included HST, which is the norm.
The Colchester balefill facility was constructed in 1995. According to a staff report, the office roof has required temporary repairs in recent years to deal with rain leaks and snow melt in winter.
Solid waste director Wayne Wamboldt told council it decided to replace the steel roof with EP DM membrane because it is more suitable because of the low slope of the roof.
“It is such a flat roof that metal is an improper application,” he said.
Council had previously approved $35,000 for the repairs in this year’s capital budget.
