Cougars pound Judges in high school football
e Cobequid Cougars opened their Nova Scotia High School football League season on Friday with a 40-2 thrashing of the JL Illsley Judges.
Running back Andrew Floyd had six carries for 111 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Cougars, while Torro Gabrielli gained 54 yards on four carries and scored one touchdown. Floyd also had a ve-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown on the punt team. Receiver Sam Hyde added a 20-yard TD reception.
CEC quarterback Michael Adams was 5-for-10 passing for 80 yards, one major score and an interception. He also had 74 yards rushing on two carries and one touchdown.
Defensively, linebacker Jordan Waller had 10 tackles, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles, while Jonah Rhind added two tackles and an interception. Jacob Shannon contributed three tackles and a sack and Lucas Watson and Ivan Gault each added two tackles and a sack.
On Friday, Sept. 14, CEC travels to Dartmouth to face the Spartans at 8:30 p.m. at the Burnside eld.
e Cougars play their home opener on Sunday, Sept. 23 against the Halifax West Warriors at 1 p.m. at James Macpherson Stadium.
