Cougars pound Judges in high school foot­ball

e Cobe­quid Cougars opened their Nova Sco­tia High School foot­ball League sea­son on Fri­day with a 40-2 thrash­ing of the JL Ill­s­ley Judges.

Run­ning back An­drew Floyd had six car­ries for 111 yards and scored two touch­downs for the Cougars, while Torro Gabrielli gained 54 yards on four car­ries and scored one touch­down. Floyd also had a ve-yard fum­ble re­cov­ery for a touch­down on the punt team. Re­ceiver Sam Hyde added a 20-yard TD re­cep­tion.

CEC quar­ter­back Michael Adams was 5-for-10 pass­ing for 80 yards, one ma­jor score and an in­ter­cep­tion. He also had 74 yards rush­ing on two car­ries and one touch­down.

De­fen­sively, line­backer Jor­dan Waller had 10 tack­les, one fum­ble re­cov­ery and two forced fum­bles, while Jonah Rhind added two tack­les and an in­ter­cep­tion. Ja­cob Shan­non con­trib­uted three tack­les and a sack and Lucas Wat­son and Ivan Gault each added two tack­les and a sack.

On Fri­day, Sept. 14, CEC trav­els to Dart­mouth to face the Spar­tans at 8:30 p.m. at the Burn­side eld.

e Cougars play their home opener on Sun­day, Sept. 23 against the Hal­i­fax West Warriors at 1 p.m. at James Macpher­son Sta­dium.
