Geo Ste­wart will serve as deputy mayor

Geo Ste­wart, the Brook­fiel­d­area (District 3) rep­re­sen­ta­tive on Colch­ester County Coun­cil will serve as deputy mayor for the re­main­der of the cur­rent mu­nic­i­pal term.

He re­places Bill Masters of Lower Truro (District 2) who has served as deputy mayor since Oct. 25, 2012.

The term of deputy mayor ex­pires af­ter the sec­ond an­niver­sary of a mu­nic­i­pal elec­tion, which last oc­curred in Nova Sco­tia in Oc­to­ber 2016 but the in­cum­bent coun­cil­lor is per­mit­ted to let their name stand for an­other nom­i­na­tion.

The deputy mayor acts as chair­per­son dur­ing Coun­cil Com­mit­tee of the Whole meet­ings while the mayor sits as chair­per­son dur­ing the reg­u­lar monthly coun­cil ses­sion. e deputy mayor also chairs all coun­cil meet­ings in the ab­sence of a sit­ting mayor.

Coun­cil­lor Eric Boutilier of Bi­ble Hill (District 1) will serve as the al­ter­nate chair of Coun­cil Com­mit­tee for the re­main­der of the cur­rent coun­cil term. He re­places Coun. Mike Cooper (District 4) who has served in that po­si­tion since Oct. 30, 2008.

e next mu­nic­i­pal elec­tion is sched­uled for Oct. 17, 2020.
