Truro Ju­nior Curling Club re­cruit­ing new mem­bers

Post-grand Slam mem­ber­ship boost is ex­pected


The Truro Ju­nior Curling Club is again re­cruit­ing new mem­bers, but this­time it’s in the re­cent wake of last week’s Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling’ Cana­dian Beef Masters.

Chil­dren and youths age seven to 21 can sign up for curling in­struc­tion, prac­tice and twice­weekly game nights as of this week.

“I think we’re go­ing to get a few more be­cause of the Grand Slam,” said club chair­man Craig Burgess. “We did last time in 2015. We saw an in­crease in brand new peo­ple, in­clud­ing more adults. There were a lot of peo­ple who signed up for the adult sec­tion.”

Youths can at­tend the club af­ter school. Curling in­struc­tion is held ev­ery Tues­day. Wed­nes­day is team prac­tice and games are on Mon­days and Thurs­days. Chil­dren un­der 11 in the pre­ju­nior cat­e­gory have a spe­cial ses­sion on Fri­days. Club games be­gin to­day, Nov. 1.

Fees are $55 per sea­son for un­der-11s and $105 for those over 11. Equip­ment such as rocks and brooms are pro­vided for mem­bers.
