TRURO, N.S. – The building may be closed, but the Truro library is still offering books, story times, craft projects, and answers to questions.

“There’s a temporary loss of access to in-person services, but that doesn’t mean a complete shutdown,” said Sarah Wood, public services librarian.

“The library can be an important resource for people spending a lot of time at home.”

The library is continuing to provide digital services, including access to e-books and audiobooks, and is increasing its investment in electronic resources.

Through Facebook, it’s also providing links to book readings, and other entertaining ideas, for children.

Staff are working from home to prepare online programs, as well as answer emails, Facebook messages and phone calls.

Beginning Thursday, March 26, people can apply for a library card, or renew an existing one, online.

“This past weekend we launched a virtual reference service,” said Wood. “We’ve had requests so we’re looking into an online book club. We want to hear from people about what they want. We encourage them to get in touch, and we’ll do our best. It’s important to be creative.”

Library staff are answering emails and Facebook questions seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Emails can be sent to anstc@ cehpubliclibrary.ca

People can contact the library toll-free, at 888-6329088, Monday to Friday from 1-4 p.m.
