The Annapolis Valley Centre (RCCO) is sponsoring an organ recital by its protégée Shawn Potter on May 25 in Manning Memorial Chapel at 7:30 p.m.
The concert is termed the Nancy Fraser Memorial Concert.
A native of Belmont, Hants County, Potter graduated from Avon View High School, in Windsor, in 2006. That year, he was awarded an Annapolis Valley Centre Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO) scholarship of organ lessons with the late Nancy Fraser, a Wolfville instructor.
Subsequently he earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Mount Allison University in 2010, where he held a Canadian Merit National Scholarship as well as a Mount Allison Bell Scholarship.
He attained a master’s degree in organ performance from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, where he studied organ with Hans-Ola Ericsson and John Grew, and harpsichord and continuo with Hank Knox. He has held numerous grants and fellowships including a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) grant.
He has held organ scholar positions at two churches in Montreal and currently Potter is director of music at First Baptist Church, Ottawa.
An open reception will follow the concert. Admission is by freewill offering.

The Annapolis Valley Honour Choir has auditions for new choir members for the next school year. Any students in Grades 5-12 during the 2016-17 academic year are invited to attend.
Auditions for both the children’s choir (Grades 5-8) and the youth choir (Grades 8-12) will be taking place on from May 27 to June 7 at various locations across the Valley.
Dates include: May 30 — Avon View High School; May 31 — Horton High School; June 1 — Northeast Kings Education Centre; June 6 — Kings County Academy; and June 7 — Berwick School.
