Hants County firefighters quickly douse grass fire off Highway 101

Firefighters quickly extinguished a grass fire in Falmouth near Highway 101 July 21.

Hantsport, Brooklyn and Windsor firefighters, as well as the Department of Natural Resources, responded to the midafternoon call.

Hantsport Fire Chief Peter Johnston said the fire was located about 305 metres (1,000 feet) from the old Highway 1, close to the Highway 101 overpass, making it a bit challenging to access.

“It was just a small grass fire next to the 101. Undetermined cause. We’re not sure yet. It’s pretty green out so we’re not sure if it was a cigarette or what,” said Johnston.

“It wasn’t moving very fast. We got it out pretty quick,” said the chief.
