best (this year).”

Lightfoot is not the only person who believes the team will do well.

“I hope we do well, we have 64 ( competitors) and I hope 25- ish go to regionals,” said Coach Melissa Hyson.

Hyson has been an active coach in the Central Kings community and says the track and field community is nice, with no real rivalries.

“It’s really a big community so we’re never really picking it against one school or the other, I know there are some really good athletes at other schools that some of our athletes have competed against every year, like each individual athlete has it’s own rival,” she said.

The CK Gators have previously won at districts and provincials in Division 2, but this year, the team is competing in Division 1. That, says Hyson, will be a big challenge to CK’s competitors.

“Way bigger competition at provincials this year because we’ll be against CEC, Parkview, and Citadel High which are all big Division 1 schools, so competition is stiffer this year,” she added.
