Windsor man arrested after fleeing from custody, assaulting police
Windsor District RCMP re-apprehended a suspect Oct. 28 after he fled from custody following an altercation where he allegedly assaulted police officers.
According to an RCMP press release, 31-year-old Kerry Lee Sampson was arrested by members of the Windsor RCMP detachment without incident at a residence in Three Mile Plains at approximately 6 p.m. on Oct. 28 after he resisted arrest earlier that day.
The day before, shortly after noon on Oct. 27, Sampson had been arrested by members of the Windsor RCMP Detachment at a residence on Stannus Street in Windsor for an alleged court order violation.
Sampson resisted arrest and is alleged to have assaulted police officers during this incident.
RCMP officers discharged an energy weapon on Sampson during this altercation, according to a press release.
Sampson was then brought into police custody and taken to hospital for treatment.
At approximately 5 p.m. Oct. 27, Sampson was released from the hospital and back into police custody.
On their way back to the Windsor detachment, the officers stopped at the Stannus Street residence for Sampson to pick up some necessary personal belongings.
During this stop at the residence, Sampson allegedly fled from police on foot.
The officers immediately chased after Sampson, but were unable to locate and apprehend him.
An earlier press release said numerous resources were deployed in an effort to locate him. An arrest warrant was also issued.
The description of Sampson said he was wearing grey sweat pants, a hospital gown and no shoes at the time of his escape. His hands were also handcuffed when he fled from police.
He was later reported as being spotted in different apparel and without handcuffs on Panuke Road before his eventual arrest in Three Mile Plains.
Sampson remains in police custody and was scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30 to answer to numerous charges, including:
· Two charges of failure to comply with conditions of undertaking
· Two charges of assault on a police officer
· Resisting/obstructing a peace officer
· Escape custody
This isn’t the first time Sampson has attempted to flee from police custody. He was previously arrested on a provincewide warrant and fled from police in August 2016. He was eventually arrested, shirtless, in the drive-thru lane of the Windsor McDonalds.
