Win­ner, win­ner, chicken din­ner. This cat­e­gory has al­ways been hotly con­tested and cause for long de­bate among our judges. Maru­tama topped this year’s list for its silky, deeply aro­matic chicken-based and sea­weed-laced broth. Well, that and the mega karaage chicken (squeeze the lemon slice over it; you won’t be sorry). No sur­prise that the lightly salted pork-based broth at the al­ways-pop­u­lar

Hokkaido Ra­men San­touka grabbed Sil­ver (al­though those weird and won­der­ful green cream so­das might have lent a help­ing hand). Muchun­der-sung Ra­men Danbo rounds out the podium thanks to its full-bod­ied and creamy tonkotsu.
