Corrigan new chair of regional transit
Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan has replaced Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson as chairman of the Mayors’ Council on Regional Transportation. The council held an election on Thursday for the one-year term positions of chair and vice-chair. Executive director Michael Buda says Corrigan and Robertson were nominated for the position of chair; Corrigan won the majority of votes. For vice-chair, District of North Vancouver Mayor Richard Walton and New Westminster Mayor Jonathan Cote were both nominated, with Walton winning. Walton takes over from Surrey Mayor Linda Hepner. The new chair and vice-chair assume their positions on Jan. 1. The Mayors’ Council is made up of representatives from each of the 21 municipalities within the transportation service region, an Electoral Area ‘A’ and the Tsawwassen First Nation. It appoints the majority of members on the TransLink board. It also performs regulatory oversight functions related to short-term fares, customer survey and complaint processes.
