Councillor on extended leave
Councillor Diane Choinière is on extended leave from her seat at the council table for the City of Clarence-Rockland and also from her advisory committee duties. Her absence is for medical reasons and both Mayor Guy Desjardins and other council members, along with city staff, are available to hear concerns, requests, and questions of the residents of Ward 8 that Choinière represents. Municipal policy dealing with the absence of councillors from their duties states that after three months of continuing absence, council may be allowed to sanction an absentee councillor if there is no good reason for the absence. During the Aug. 8 regular council session, the mayor and other seven councillors gave unanimous approval to a motion for an extension of the three-month absence guideline to the end of December of this year to allow Councllor Choinière more time to deal with her medical concerns.
