Poppy campaign to begin next week
Every year, branches of the Royal Canadian Legion across the country launch their annual Poppy Campaign to raise money in the name of Remembrance Day. The Campaign begins at the end of the month, on Friday, October 27, and will run until the day before Remembrance Day, Friday, November 10.
As usual per every other year, Poppy boxes will be set up all around ClarenceRockland in most businesses, as well as in- formation tables set up at The Independent and Walmart. Pins, hats, magnets and other Royal Canadian Legion merchandise will also be sold at these locations. However, the Poppies are not being sold; they are given by donation only.
The Royal Canadian Legion will be holding their annual Remembrance Day Ceremony at the cenotaph, in front of City Hall, on Remembrance Day, Saturday, November 11. The ceremony will consist of a parade involving Legion members, the Legion colour party, military members, the cadet band, the Knights of Columbus, Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brownies, Sparks and several other groups.
There will be a march to the cenotaph, where wreaths will be laid by representatives of the federal, provincial and local governments, as well as by serving military members and all individuals and organizations that have purchased wreaths.
