Pop­py cam­pai­gn to be­gin next week

Des fi­liales de la Lé­gion royale ca­na­dienne à tra­vers le pays lancent leur cam­pagne an­nuelle du fonds du co­que­li­cot du Jour du sou­ve­nir. La cam­pagne à Cla­rence-Ro­ck­land com­mence à la fin du mois, le ven­dre­di 27 oc­tobre et se pour­sui­vra jus­qu’au ven­dre­di 10 no­vembre. Eve­ry year, branches of the Royal Ca­na­dian Le­gion across the coun­try launch their an­nual Pop­py Cam­pai­gn to raise mo­ney in the name of Re­mem­brance Day. The Cam­pai­gn be­gins at the end of the month, on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 27, and will run un­til the day be­fore Re­mem­brance Day, Fri­day, No­vem­ber 10.

As usual per eve­ry other year, Pop­py boxes will be set up all around Cla­ren­ceRo­ck­land in most bu­si­nesses, as well as in- for­ma­tion tables set up at The In­de­pendent and Wal­mart. Pins, hats, ma­gnets and other Royal Ca­na­dian Le­gion mer­chan­dise will al­so be sold at these lo­ca­tions. Ho­we­ver, the Pop­pies are not being sold; they are gi­ven by do­na­tion on­ly.

The Royal Ca­na­dian Le­gion will be hol­ding their an­nual Re­mem­brance Day Ce­re­mo­ny at the ce­no­taph, in front of Ci­ty Hall, on Re­mem­brance Day, Sa­tur­day, No­vem­ber 11. The ce­re­mo­ny will consist of a pa­rade in­vol­ving Le­gion mem­bers, the Le­gion co­lour par­ty, mi­li­ta­ry mem­bers, the ca­det band, the Knights of Co­lum­bus, Scouts, Guides, Cubs, Brow­nies, Sparks and se­ve­ral other groups.

There will be a march to the ce­no­taph, where wreaths will be laid by re­pre­sen­ta­tives of the fe­de­ral, pro­vin­cial and lo­cal go­vern­ments, as well as by ser­ving mi­li­ta­ry mem­bers and all in­di­vi­duals and or­ga­ni­za­tions that have pur­cha­sed wreaths.
