The Nats host minor hockey day in Rockland
The Rockland Nationals Junior A team hosted a Minor Hockey Day in Rockland for all teams of the Minor Hockey Association, at the CIH Arena in Rockland, this past Sunday, October 15. Participating teams had a chance to win a $ 500 sponsorship prize from the Rockland Nats Junior A team, and the lucky team was the Rockland Nats Novice B team, coached by Rick Laferrière.
The Nats took on the Cornwall Colts during this Minor Hockey Day and took home an overtime victory of 4-3. Jahwara Rennalls, Mathieu Blanchette and Cole Lavoie each brought in a regular-time goal for the Nats. Having entered the third period with a 3-2 lead over the Colts, the opposing team was able to tie it up pretty early in the period. However, Connor Beatty came out on fire and brought the Nats to victory with his game-winning goal, eight seconds into the first overtime period, earning his title as first star of the game. Blanchette was named third star of the game, while the second star went to Colts player Konnor MacCormick.
The Rockland Nats also had a game on Friday, October 13, in which they fell 3-2 to the Ottawa Jr. Senators. Aaron Brisebois and Shane Spencer picked up the Nats’ two goals, while goaltender Sean Storr made 36 out of 39 saves throughout the game. The Nats’ next game will be played on the road against the Kemptville 73’s on Friday, October 20, before coming home to the CIH Arena on Sunday, October 22, against the Brockville Braves, for a benefit game for breast cancer. The Nats are asking everyone to wear pink in support of women battling breast cancer and the team will also be donating their share of the 50/50 draw to the Cancer Society.
