Ryu is on top of the world

ROGERS, Ark. — Two-time major champion So Yeon Ryu has a new title — No. 1 in the world. Ryu became the third player this year to rise to No. 1 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Ranking with her victory in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championsh­ip. The 26-year-old from South Korea replaces Ariya Jutanugarn, who held the top ranking for two weeks. Jutanugarn had replaced Lydia Ko. Ryu is the third South Korean native to be No. 1, joining Inbee Park and Jiyai Shin. some men, “but if she had to just play the circuit — the men’s circuit — that would be an entirely different story.” He said if she tried to be part of the men’s tour, “she’d be like 700 in the world.” Williams has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, a record in the Open era, which began in 1968. McEnroe won seven major titles.
