Spending $5.5M to tell us what we know
Re: Promoting hydro cuts to cost $5.5M — Sept. 26
Kathleen Wynne and her provincial Liberals just keeping on tossing around this hot potato. The mismanagement of the energy file just carries on. Going back to Dalton McGuinty’s days, his team of overzealous bureaucrats signed up hugely expensive contracts for alternative sources of wind and solar power. They hid the pea in terms of rising costs until it showed up on consumers’ monthly bills. As it turned out, the power costs were unsustainable and were cut back, but the damage was already done and the higher costs lingered on. The cancelled gas plant scandal added another $1.2 billion to the consumers’ burden and now pretty much everyone I know is exactly aware of their monthly hydro expense.
Anyone who can read or visits their favourite doughnut shop is well aware that hydro bills are now being artificially lowered just in time for the next election. However, Premier Wynne feels that she still needs to spend $5.5 million of our money to tell us something we already know. And the beat goes on. Tom Fitzsimmons Kitchener
