Woman, 78, dead after being struck by turning vehicle
A 78-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a vehicle while crossing Barrie Street at Churchill Drive on Friday afternoon. Police say the woman was walking with her grandson, on the south side of Churchill Drive, when they were struck by a sport utility vehicle turning left onto Churchill. The victims were both transported to Cambridge Memorial hospital, where the woman was pronounced dead. The 11-year-old boy was treated for minor injuries and has since been returned to his parents, police say. Police say the SUV was travelling west on Churchill Drive, stopped at a stop sign and turned left onto Barrie Street when the collision occurred. The accident happened at about 1 p.m. Barrie Street was closed between Churchill Drive and Cedar Street for several hours into the late afternoon. Police continue to investigate.
