Support for Ford
Re: Fife removed from legislature during raucous sitting Wednesday — Sept. 12
I fully endorse Premier Doug Ford’s decision to invoke the notwithstanding clause in order to pass legislation to reduce the number of Toronto’s city councillors.
In fact, I think the notwithstanding clause should be used more often to clear away judicial obstructionism of democratic procedures.
I understand that the rule of law is a corner stone of a democratic society.
But the rule of law should not by any stretch of the imagination come to mean rule by lawyers and judges.
And protesters who attempt to disrupt proceedings in the legislature are not by any means exercising their democratic rights, but rather are catering to the lowest instincts of mob rule.
