Drivers, slow down

Waterloo Region Record - - Insight -

These dark, wet nights of November create a real problem for drivers, especially seniors. The number of pedestrian auto accidents increases at this time of year. We drivers need to slow down and be especially alert at intersections and crosswalks.

But we could really use some help from you, the pedestrian. For your safety, please wear some light-coloured clothing or reflective gear — you cannot be seen in your dark clothing and hoodies. Put your phone in your pocket and ditch the earbuds. Respect the walk/wait signal. Be aware of your surroundings.

All of these things would go a long way to keeping you safe and all of us accident free. Both drivers and pedestrians can do much more to avoid accidents. Let’s make this a joint effort to stay safe.
