Vandals targeting statue should be punished

- Joan Collins Waterloo

Vandalizing the statue of Sir John A. Macdonald was a deliberate act and the culprits should be caught and penalized to the full extent of the law, like any other persons vandalizing property.

If they had an issue they should go about it the proper way and contact local councillors.

Their behaviour is despicable, and a poor example to show our children that it’s acceptable to damage other people’s property.

When it’s history, it’s in the past. Destroying property will not change that. Life was different then, life is different now, and life will be different years into the future. History cannot be rewritten, whether good or bad. We need to learn from the past and move forward. Baden should keep the statue.

Some look at the good Macdonald did and not always the bad. For those who want to use vandalism to make a point, I hope they think about it and make their point in a constructive way.

Thank you to the volunteers who came out to remove the red paint. Your actions do you proud.
