Jamaica, Las Vegas and Turks and Caicos are just a few of the hot spots headlining our honeymoon wanderlust list!
Jamaica, Las Vegas, and Turks and Caicos are just a few of the hot spots headlining our honeymoon wanderlust list.
For a honeymoon offering luxury, super-chillness and romance, consider Jamaica’s Montego Bay. To get the full red carpet treatment, stay at Sandals Royal Caribbean. You will be met at the airport and driven via luxury private transfer to this deluxe all-inclusive resort, where a personal butler will whisk you via an exclusive boat jaunt to the offshore private island Sandals Cay and ensconce you in the palatial environs of an Over-the-Water Villa. These five new Tahitian-style private paradises were designed using Feng Shui, and each is an opulent, harmonious expression of a different natural element: wood, water, fire, earth or metal.
Indoors and out blend seamlessly thanks to transparent glass floor panels and expansive glass doors throughout the uber-spacious villa (well over 1000 square feet), which sits perched above the water. The ocean is literally your front yard, just a few steps off your deck down the private staircase.—Kate Yorga
It’s hard to be anything but relaxed in Antigua. The largest English-speaking island within the eastern Caribbean’s Leeward Islands is known for its mellow vibes, friendly people, beautiful uncrowded beaches and near-perfect weather year-round.
Charming boutique hotels abound in Antigua, but none compare to Curtain Bluff. This unpretentious allinclusive five-star resort on the island’s south coast, a favourite hideaway of Keith Richards and Eric Clapton, features flawless ocean views from every room and suite. The property (under the same ownership and management since opening in 1962), is like a luxurious summer camp for adults. And with a full-service spa, gourmet food, top-shelf bar drinks—the dark ‘n’ stormy cocktail crafted with local rum and homemade ginger beer is especially popular—as well as complimentary snorkeling trips, tennis instruction, yoga and pilates classes, water sports, and a location that spans two hammock-lined beachfronts, it’s no surprise that many guests return year after year.
With all that Curtain Bluff has to offer, it’s certainly not necessary to leave the property, but if you do, there’s plenty to keep you busy. Venture to Antigua’s east coast to visit Stingray City, a shallow area just off shore where you can swim with and feed these majestic fish, and for an authentic taste of Antiguan life, the Sunday barbecue party in Shirley Heights is not to be missed. This weekly celebration featuring local food and steel band music has been an Antiguan institution for more than 30 years.—Jen O’Brien
There’s nowhere on earth quite like SoCal … the breezy ocean vistas, chill vibes and the flawless weather make this destination positively utopic. For an exclusive honeymoon locale that’s private, intimate and oh-so-luxe, head 30 minutes north of San Diego to Rancho Valencia in Rancho Santa Fe. Southern California’s only Relais and Chateaux resort will spoil you with incredible food, lush Mediterranean garden vistas (olive and citrus trees abound on the property’s 45 acres) and swish accommodations.
The five-star Forbes-rated resort, which repeatedly tops travel best lists, is totally plush. There are 49 spacious and luxe hacienda-style casita suites on the property, complete with fireplaces, private patios and plunge pools. Rancho is renowned for its incredible spa. Set admist lush gardens guaranteed to soothe the soul, the spa menu here is extensive and focused on restoring balance and wellness. You can even get your sweat on in one of three studios offering fitness, pilates and yoga.
Another part of post-wedding rejuvenation is eating well, and the culinary team at Rancho Valencia will take care of that. With a wealth of fresh local produce at the ready, all of the property’s eateries (Velodora, The Pony Room and Rein) have incredible California-cool food and beverage menus. Rumoured to be a hideaway that celebs including Robert Redford and the Clintons adore, Rancho delivers nothing but the best travel experience, which is exactly what you want for your honeymoon.—Alison
TURKS AND CAICOS
Turks and Caicos has developed a reputation as the ultimate place to kick back and relax. Serene Grace Bay on the island of Providenciales is repeatedly crowned one of the world’s best beaches—there are few better places to embrace the art of doing nothing. However, spending your entire honeymoon in Turks and Caicos in the chill zone would mean missing out on the amazing things on offer in these 40 islands and cays.
A horseback ride with Provo Ponies allows newlyweds to prance out into the clear turquoise waters of Long Bay Beach while snapping swoon-worthy Insta photos. Voluntourism opportunities abound at Potcake Place K9 Rescue, which encourages visitors to walk its shelter dogs on the beach. The weekly fish fry in Providenciales is a must, bringing together locals and tourists for a night of music, dancing and street food. You’ll also want to take a sunset cruise to the area’s hidden beaches aboard Sun Charters’ Atabeyra, which involves snorkeling in secluded coves and sailing, cocktail in hand, past the private island where Kylie Jenner celebrated her 19th birthday.
Our favourite place to stay is at Ocean Club West, where you can score a luxurious oceanview suite with all the amenities of a modern condo for just a few hundred dollars per night. The resort, one of two Ocean Club properties on the same postcard-perfect stretch of sand, boasts a prime beachfront location on Grace Bay, a giant freshwater pool, tennis courts, a fitness centre, a revamped open-air restaurant with Morimototrained sushi chefs, as well as complimentary kayaks, paddleboards and bicycles for exploring the surrounding area.—Jen O’Brien
Sin city is many things, but did you know it’s one of the world’s most luxurious spots to honeymoon? With a wealth of luxury hotels, spas and restaurants at your fingertips, Las Vegas is the perfect spot for rest, relaxation and romance (yes, really!). For a chic and sweet boutique sleep tucked away in the heart of the action, check into Nobu Hotel, which is located inside Caesars Palace. The vibe here is seriously Zen, quiet and serene—there are only 182 rooms, all featuring an organic, Japanese decor style. A must while in-house is indulging in the world-renowned Nobu menu available to you via 24-hour room service.
While we’re talking food, there are many indulgent foodie experiences in Vegas—fitting them all in will be your challenge. Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars Palace delivers the French culinary experience of a lifetime in the hautest of dining rooms. Bring an appetite because we guarantee the gourmet, multi-course feast will be one of your best meals ever. Other must dines include Giada Vegas—the first resto by celebrity chef Giada de Laurentiis—which is bright, bustling and serves incredible Italian fare, especially its epic brunch; and Mizumi at Wynn, which serves the most delicious and inspired Japanese cuisine on the strip. Book the pagoda table for the ultimate romantic dining experience.
Another way to indulge is at the spa and Vegas is home to some of the best and the biggest. Two of our picks are the Qua Spa & Baths at Caesars (try the Nobu Zen massage to complement your hotel stay) and The Spa at Encore—the 24K Gold Facial is the perfect treatment, as it’s a match for the spa’s opulent and incredibly over-the-top interior.
Other favourite honeymoon musts on our list include some upscale retail therapy at the Shops at Crystals; a nighttime tour of the Neon Boneyard Museum to see a historic and cool collection of vintage Vegas signs; touring the LINQ Promenade entertainment area and taking a spin on the High Roller, the 550-foot tall observation wheel.—Alison McGill
