Vancouver, BC - The German-Canadian Business Association was thrilled to be celebrating its 50th Anniversary, under the leadership of newly elected President, Beatrice Schreiber at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on Friday, May 30th, 2013. German General Consul Herrmann Sitz and his wife, were one of around 100 guests that enjoyed the champagne reception, the dancing children from the Westside German School & St. Mark’s Church, fellow speakers and a delicious meal and desert bar. Honourable Grace McCarthy, Pastor Hardo Ermisch, new honorary member Arthur Dussa and original member Wolfgang Christl were also present. The 8 children performed “Das Fliegerlied” accompanied by Richard Theiss on his accordion, who also showed the crowd how to perform the actions. Both young and old were soon dancing together, with the help of pros, such as Christine Spreter new principal of the Westside German School and parents of the dancing children. The weather played its part to make it a beautiful evening for everyone, while Richard Theiss and his S-Bahn Band were there to kick things up a notch with their great mix of songs. Before that, Ms. Schreiber let the audience guess the Number One Hit from 1963, which Richard sang to the crowd, as he accompanied himself on the piano. Can you guess? It is Freddy Quinn with “Junge, Komm Bald Wieder”, a song about a boy who leaves home to become a sailor. The German-Canadian Business Association is also glad to be announce their Introductory One-Year Membership for only $200, especially for those who are former members of the German Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
