SCOTT HELMAN

Where Calgary - - HOT ENTERTAINMENT -

July 8 His catchy hit single “Bungalow” has been a mainstay of CBC Radio 2’s Top 20 weekly countdown, and he’s been touring with Walk Off the Earth. Now hear the new-and-hot-on-the-scene pop performer play his first Calgary show on the Coca-Cola Stage during Stampede (page 20). What do you like best about performing live? “When I play a headline show it feels like there’s a social fabric, everyone’s in it together, and I try to make a strong connection with my fans. Being on stage is the moment I’m able to most express myself; it’s a re-introduction to who I am as an artist. When I record music I record for myself, but when you release that music it becomes the listeners’. Then, when I perform, I want to engage with listeners and read people and get to that moment where we’re all connected and on the same page.” How would you describe one of your shows? “Exciting, dynamic, and lots going on. I just want to show the audience a fun time. I’d say listen to ‘Bungalow’ before the show because that’s the single so it’s the one most people sing along to. ‘Machine’ is also a good representation of me as a songwriter and it’s my favourite song on the EP.”
