BREWERY AND THE BEAST

Where Calgary - - HOT DINING -

This popular Vancouver meat-and-beer dining festival is coming to Calgary on August 23. The all-inclusive event gets you unlimited food and up to 10 full size alcoholic beverages with your ticket—no skimpy sample sizes here! Chefs from across Alberta will be grilling up different cuts and varieties of meats from regional farms—everything from whole pig and lamb roasts, smoked meats, barbequed meats, and ethnic-inspired dishes. “Many of the finest meat products are coming from Alberta, and we’re focused on highlighting products with ethical and regional farming practices,” says event founder Scott Gurney. “The food scene in Calgary is phenomenal, the chefs are wonderful, and the hospitality workers are friendly. It’s a great city with a passion for topnotch cuisine.” Phillips Beer, based in Victoria, will quench your thirst with 13 varieties of cold draught beer from their “cool, unique, Dr. Seuss-like contraption"—a 50 foot semi-trailer that has been converted into a whimsical beer cooler. The brew varieties includes Phillips’ new summer beer Short Wave West Coast Pale Ale. “This is an event about educating yourself about where your food is from and also trying some of the best food that Calgary has to offer,” Gurney says (page 42).
