This pop­u­lar Van­cou­ver meat-and-beer din­ing fes­ti­val is com­ing to Cal­gary on Au­gust 23. Chefs from across Al­berta will be grilling up dif­fer­ent cuts and va­ri­eties of meats from re­gional farms—ev­ery­thing from whole pig and lamb roasts, smoked meats, bar­be­qued meats, and eth­nic-inspired dishes. “Many of the finest meat prod­ucts are com­ing from Al­berta, and we’re fo­cused on high­light­ing prod­ucts with eth­i­cal and re­gional farm­ing prac­tices,” says event founder Scott Gur­ney. “The food scene in Cal­gary is phe­nom­e­nal, the chefs are won­der­ful, and the hos­pi­tal­ity work­ers are friendly. It’s a great city with a pas­sion for top­notch cui­sine.” Phillips Beer, based in Vic­to­ria, will quench your thirst with 13 va­ri­eties of cold draught beer from their “cool, unique, Dr. Seuss-like con­trap­tion"—a 50 foot semi-trailer that has been con­verted into a whim­si­cal beer cooler. The brew va­ri­eties in­cludes Phillips’ new sum­mer beer Short Wave West Coast Pale Ale. “This is an event about ed­u­cat­ing your­self about where your food is from and also try­ing some of the best food that Cal­gary has to of­fer,” Gur­ney says (page 42).
