Brian Smith has two de­grees from the Univer­sity of Cal­gary, but more im­por­tantly, he knows great beer thanks to craft­ing thou­sands of batches for Wild Rose Brew­ery and other in­de­pen­dent brew­ers. He cur­rently leads the brew­ing op­er­a­tions at Wild Rose, which started brew­ing its craft beer in Cal­gary in 1996. As the pop­u­lar­ity of craft beer con­tin­ues to grow, so does Wild Rose, but they con­tinue to brew in small batches with a huge fo­cus on the qual­ity of in­gre­di­ents (which in­cludes malt bar­ley and some wheat that may have been grown by you) that goes into ev­ery batch. Their beers are sup­plied ex­clu­sively to Alberta, so con­sider your­self lucky to live here.
