BELLES SOEURS: THE MUSICAL

Where Ottawa - - Here & Now -

UNTIL MAY 14

Originally written in French, this irreverent Québecois theatre classic was groundbreaking when it bowed in 1968. Now, the English translation comes to the stage at the National Arts Centre. Tune up for the tale of Germaine Lauzon, a workingclass housewife in Montreal, and newfound winner of one million Gold Star trading stamps – exchangeable for various goods. Her celebration with female family and friends is beset by jealousy, pride, gossip – and plenty of songs and laughs. On the musical side of the NAC’s ledger, don’t miss Royal Wood with Rose Cousins and the NAC Orchestra on May 6. Meanwhile, Belles Soeurs is a theatre family you won’t want to miss. (p.38)
