Hop aboard False Creek Fer­ries (page 70) to Granville Is­land, and you’ll dock just a few steps from Popina Can­teen (listed below). This ca­sual out­door eatery— with its kitchen housed in a rad­i­cally re­pur­posed ship­ping con­tainer—is the brain­child of four Van­cou­ver chefs. City stal­warts An­gus An, Hamid Sal­im­ian, Joël Watan­abe and Robert Belcham wanted to col­lab­o­rate for years. And the Granville Is­land Pub­lic Mar­ket helped make it all hap­pen, shore­side at that, with the bonus of stun­ning bridge and creek views. Drop by for lob­ster rolls, steamed Dun­geness crab, fancy toasts, healthy sal­ads and soft-serve cream puffs, along­side BC brews, bub­bles and sea­sonal cock­tails.—Tim Pawsey
