YOUR TREAT, YOUR WAY

Confetti Gelato is fun, sweet and all about the treats. If you choose to follow them on Instagram, beware: They don’t hold back on the “yummy” photos. They offer an array of locally made gelato and sorbet, along with pick-and-mix candy, healthful smoothies, warming oatmeal bowls and Italian coffees. The Confetti team claims the fun is in the “choosing,” but if you have trouble making decisions, this could be a tough place for you with so many scrumptious options.

“We opened this August with a vision to create a unique gelato store, somewhere to get a special treat after a day on the mountain skiing or biking,” explains Louise Stack, business development manager at Confetti.

“No matter your age, everyone loves gelato and sweet treats, so we wanted to create something different for the whole community to enjoy.”

Confetti’s açai smoothie bowls are a top seller. Made from scratch, they’re fresh, healthful and even vegan. This winter watch for their new oatmeal bowls and warm, cheese waffles.

Confetti is located a short drive from Whistler Village in Creekside or a short walk from the Creekside Gondola base if you ski down. If you’re bringing your little ones, it is conveniently situated next to the children’s playground, so you can let them burn off that gelato-fuelled energy while you enjoy yours. They also offer nutfree, vegan and dairy-free options so that no one needs to miss out on a sweet treat. Confetti is a place that invites you to indulge in la dolce vita — enjoy! 604-388- 8765 | confettigelato.com

A PASSION FOR PATTIES

The tagline at Splitz Grill is “Casual Place - Serious Burgers,” and with fresh patties made daily and more than 40 homemade toppings to choose from, they certainly live up to that slogan. Local owners Lindsay and Peter Goff took over this legendary Whistler burger joint in 2017, working alongside business partner and Chef Matty Brown.

“Peter was a longtime fan of Splitz, and when the business came up for sale, he couldn’t get it out of his head,” explains Lindsay. “We loved the interactive nature of the build-your-own burger concept, and we are proud to keep the legacy going. We feel that burgers are for everyone, from your fancy, sauced and stacked giants to the simple classics. At Splitz, they come 100 per cent how you want them.”

When Lindsay decides to “pig out,” she opts for the original Splitz Burger, topped with cheese and bacon with a side of “Frings,” a guiltypleasure combination of fries and onion rings. If she’s looking for something more healthful, she chooses their lentil burger in a wrap served with guacamole and fresh veggies.

It’s options like free-range bison and wild salmon along with extras like grilled pineapple, homemade baba ganoush and fried eggs that elevate the burger experience at Splitz. The burgers can be served in a bun, wrap or gluten-free bun, and all the patties (except for the lamb) are also gluten-free. Dine in, take out or call for pick-up from this Whistler favourite, serving up serious patty passion since 1997. 604-938-9300 | splitzgrill.com

BECOME A GINSMITH

Have you ever considered becoming a Ginsmith? The team at Montis Distilling has you covered. Whistler’s first local distillery is in Function Junction, a short drive south of Whistler Village. Montis, which means “mountain” in Latin, is a labour of love for local owners Byanna and Kwang Chen, who turned their hobby into a business this past summer. Kwang’s love of Whistler is what inspired the flavour profile of their Alpine

Gin. He wanted to add a little homage to the mountains in their first batch with the inclusion of cedar alongside a botanical mix of juniper, coriander, cardamom, ginger and orange peel.

“Our gin is big and bold,” Kwang says. “Everything is done in-house, from the mashing to fermenting, distilling, bottling and labelling.”

Montis also produces a doubledistilled vodka and planned a December launch for a limited-release “Winter Spirit” that tastes like a merger of whisky and mulled wine with oak, cinnamon and clove, tempered by the sweetness of the apple. Speaking of whisky, the company also had a test batch that was aging this past fall with an eye towards moving into larger whisky production in the near future. They can also custom-make gins in small batches, perfect for a made-inWhistler gift or memento.

Visitors are welcome (by appointment) at the distillery but Montis’s products are also available at Whistler’s three private liquor stores and the B.C. Liquor Store in Creekside. Montis spirits are also featured on the menu at The Raven Room and other eateries around town. 778-996-7368 | montisdistilling.com
