- The Wiar­ton Hos­pi­tal’s First baby of the year ar­rived Wed­nes­day, Jan­uary 2 at 1:55 a.m. Lit­tle Anna Su­san weighed in at 6.6 lbs and is the first girl in the fam­ily in 23 years. Proud par­ents are Su­san and Jake For­rest of RR3 Hep­worth.

- The 2002 Big Chill New Years Scuba for Cancer at Colpoys Bay raised just over $9,500 for the Cana­dian Cancer So­ci­ety. Fifty divers par­tic­i­pated in the Jan. 1 event, more than dou­ble last year’s 19 divers, who raised just un­der $3,200 in 2001.

- Canada Post, through the sales of Hall­mark Christ­mas Or­na­ments was able to do­nate $450 to the lo­cal Sal­va­tion Army in the form of 12 gift cer­tifi­cates worth $40 to buy boots for needy chil­dren.
