Saugeen First Na­tion house de­stroyed by fire

(SAUGEEN FIRST NA­TION - ON) – A house on 2nd Av­enue South be­tween 19th Street South and Ida Street in Saugeen First Na­tion was de­stroyed by fire, Feb. 9.

Ac­cord­ing to a news re­lease is­sued by Bruce Penin­sula On­tario Pro­vin­cial Po­lice (OPP), the owner of the res­i­dence was con­tacted and re­ported no one was in the res­i­dence.

Bruce Penin­sula OPP along with the South Bruce Penin­sula Fire Depart­ment and Bruce County Emer­gency Med­i­cal Ser­vices, re­sponded to a house fire at 4:15 p.m.

2nd Av­enue was closed from French Bay Road to 16th Street South and po­lice re­quested the pub­lic to avoid the area to al­low emer­gency ser­vices to con­tinue their work on scene. The road re­opened Feb. 10 around 1:00 p.m.

At the time of pub­li­ca­tion, the in­ves­ti­ga­tion was in the early stages and the es­ti­mated amount of dam­age and cause of the fire had not yet been de­ter­mined.
