Family fun on Feb. 20

Wiarton Echo - - NEWS - Marg Fletcher

It’s nice to know that we will have an early spring according to our Wiarton Willie. I can hardly wait for that to come along. Although according to the weather gal I watch on the London station, it will be some time before the snow decides to go away.

Due to the freezing rain prediction last Monday, which did show up around noon hour or so on Tuesday, the school buses were cancelled on the Monday and the school children all had a holiday on Tuesday.

Happy Birthday wishes to Gateway Haven resident Heinz Spillner, Feb. 16. Belated Birthday wishes to Gateway Haven residents Betty on Feb. 11 and Dawn on Feb. 12. Happy 60th wedding anniversary wishes to Glen and Florence Miller on Feb. 15. May you all have a happy and healthy year to come.

Family Day in Ontario is Feb. 20. There will be activities here in Wiarton and in Sauble Beach. The Activities may include an archery demonstration and fish hatchery tour at the Bruce Peninsula Sportmen’s Association, billiards at Lloyd’s Smoke Shop, horse drawn hay/sleigh ride in Bluewater Park, skating at the Wiarton arena, snowshoeing and skiing on Sauble cross country ski trails and a spaghetti dinner at The Meeting Place/Propeller Club in Wiarton.

I know that February has just begun but there are a few dates in March of note. Daylight Saving Time begins on March 12, March break starts on March 13 to March 17 and the Spring Equinox is on March 20.

Please note – Feb. 20 is blue box pickup in Albemarle.

Although it is a bit early to talk about gardening this is something to think about while the snow continues to fall. Wiarton Community Gardens are located at Gateway Haven County of Bruce Long Term Care (access on Mary Street). So if you enjoy gardening and growing your own vegetables but don’t have room for a garden where you live, you can contact the recreation programmer at (519) 534-1400 extension 132 and find out what it costs to particpate.

Take care everyone, have a wonderful week to come even if you have to shovel more snow and once again please drive carefully.
