Wiarton skate­board park build

SBP staff pro­vided an up­date on the skate­board park build in Wiarton at the Oct. 3 coun­cil meet­ing.

The Skate­board Park com­mit­tee has raised over $100,000 to­wards the project, South Bruce Penin­sula coun­cil was told.

The town has pledged $15,000 to­wards the cap­i­tal cost of in­stalling the park, but th­ese funds will not be ad­vanced un­til the project is com­plete and has met mu­nic­i­pal stan­dards, An­nette Rob­son, deputy man­ager of fi­nan­cial ser­vices for the town, said in a re­port to coun­cil.

“It’s a $150,000 project. The holdup is just the fund­ing,” Mayor Jan­ice Jack­son said in an in­ter­view.

“They’ve been madly fundrais­ing and they’re twothirds of the way there now.”

Jack­son said coun­cil has “full con­fi­dence that they’re go­ing to reach that goal so we’re go­ing ahead with the con­struc­tion,” which is sched­uled for spring 2018.

Jack­son added that in-kind con­tri­bu­tions have also been of­fered.
