Wiarton skateboard park build
SBP staff provided an update on the skateboard park build in Wiarton at the Oct. 3 council meeting.
The Skateboard Park committee has raised over $100,000 towards the project, South Bruce Peninsula council was told.
The town has pledged $15,000 towards the capital cost of installing the park, but these funds will not be advanced until the project is complete and has met municipal standards, Annette Robson, deputy manager of financial services for the town, said in a report to council.
“It’s a $150,000 project. The holdup is just the funding,” Mayor Janice Jackson said in an interview.
“They’ve been madly fundraising and they’re twothirds of the way there now.”
Jackson said council has “full confidence that they’re going to reach that goal so we’re going ahead with the construction,” which is scheduled for spring 2018.
Jackson added that in-kind contributions have also been offered.
