TOR­NA­DOES SUS­PECTED IN VI­O­LENT STORM

Au­thor­i­ties sus­pect a vi­o­lent storm that hit New Brunswick late Thurs­day, rip­ping roofs apart and pulling down util­ity poles, may have been pow­ered by tor­na­does. “They were ex­pect­ing some thun­der­show­ers, but noth­ing of that mag­ni­tude,” said Robert Duguay, a spokesman with the prov­ince’s Emer­gency Mea­sures Or­ga­ni­za­tion. The cause­way and bridge link­ing Lameque and Mis­cou is­lands to Shippagan were closed to traf­fic due to more than a dozen power lines that were knocked down.
