SIU ends probe of ar­rest in­jury

The prov­ince’s po­lice watch­dog has ended an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into fa­cial in­juries a 19-year-old man suf­fered while be­ing ar­rested by Wind­sor po­lice. “The ev­i­dence shows the man did not sus­tain a se­ri­ous in­jury,” said Tony Loparco, di­rec­tor of the Special In­ves­ti­ga­tions Unit. “As such, I have ter­mi­nated the in­ves­ti­ga­tion into this in­ci­dent.” The SIU is an arm’s length agency that in­ves­ti­gates re­ports of sex­ual abuse, death or se­ri­ous in­jury in­volv­ing po­lice. The agency was called af­ter Wind­sor po­lice stopped a ve­hi­cle early in the morn­ing on Sept. 10 on Beals Street near Wood­land Av­enue. The man even­tu­ally got out of the ve­hi­cle. There was an “in­ter­ac­tion” be­tween an of­fi­cer and the man, who suf­fered an in­jury to his face but re­fused med­i­cal treat­ment. Po­lice ar­rested the man and charged him with sev­eral of­fences.
