Ford unveils bus, ‘For the People’ campaign slogan

-

PC leader Doug Ford chose one of the messiest days on the roads this year to unveil his new campaign bus — and the slogan he will rely on in the upcoming election. While the ice storm prompted police and civic officials to urge people to stay off the roads, Ford offered a peek of his election bus, which is emblazoned with his campaign slogan, For The People, in downtown Toronto at the Coach Bus Terminal. “Everywhere I’m going, I’m hearing ‘Doug, do it for the people,’ ” said Ford in explaining the slogan’s origins.

But the winter-like weather didn’t deter Ford, who was dressed in a blue suit and tie as he addressed the small crowd at a roofcovered podium. “We’re getting our campaign into a new gear,” said Ford. “(Premier) Kathleen Wynne is out campaigning. The only difference is Kathleen Wynne is using taxpayers’ money to campaign. We’re using our own money to campaign. On June 8 (the day after the election), the party with the taxpayers’ money is over.”

Ford’s campaign promises include cleaning up “the Hydro mess, to create good paying jobs and restore accountability and respect. And to make sure we cut hospital line wait times.”

He’s pledged to fire the Hydro One boss, who earned $6.2 million in 2017, and said Sunday his policy on hydro rates will be rolled out “over the next few weeks.”
