A theft at a local Little League snack trailer has devastated the organization.

Windsor Central Little League’s concession trailer in Optimist Community Park was reportedly broken into Tuesday night. The door to the trailer was forced open. It had been locked and secured around 10 p.m. the night before.

League president Donna Standel says that the hot dog machine, food steamers, cash box, sports equipment, concession stock, and more were stolen.

“It’s really frustrating. We’re trying to provide a decent program for these kids, and this is a big setback.” Windsor Central Little League is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. Standel says the group does fundraising to keep the players’ fees as low as possible. The organization has some sponsors, but a significant amount of funding comes from snack sales. Standel says this is the second time the league has been targeted. Last season, thieves stole sports equipment.

“If we can get enough stock in the snack bar to start selling again, we can try to recoup,” Standel says. Police are investigating the incident, which was reported about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The league’s original home was in a building on Ypres Boulevard, but the City of Windsor tore it down years ago to accommodate the new W. F. Chisholm Public Library. Since then, the city has provided the organization with its current

trailer. Standel says the city has been working on a new building for them, which should be ready to use in a few weeks. Standel hopes that community support will keep the organization on its feet.

“As the word of the theft spreads, I’m seeing more and more people interested in helping. We get our revenue from donations, too.” Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor Police Services at 519-255-6700 ext. 4350, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online at www.catchcrooks.com
