Howe bridge could be called No. 9

Windsor Star - - OPINION -

The news that the Gordie Howe bridge will finally be built is welcomed by many, loathed by a few, and made me wonder about the name. We prefer to shorten names of local facilities, referring to them as The Bridge, The Tunnel, The Joe (now gone), but you get my point.

We will have a second bridge to cross, and instead of referring to it as The Gordie Howe International Bridge, when I tell someone where I will be crossing,

I’ll say, “I will be taking the No. 9,” referring to his jersey number, no disrespect to Gordie. David McMillan, Tecumseh
