Satel­lites could ruin as­tron­omy for pro­fes­sional and am­a­teur stargaz­ers. Oneweb aims to launch 48,000 to cre­ate a global com­mu­ni­ca­tions net­work. Spacex wants to launch more than 41,000; Ama­zon wants 3,236; Face­book’s Athena is look­ing at 100,000. Stud­ies show just 12,000 satel­lites would “se­ri­ously com­pro­mise” wide-field te­le­scopes.
