Situated Cinema A free program of films curated by Solomon Nagler screening in a mobile microcinema installed in different places: at The Forks Thursday at noon; at the University of Winnipeg Friday at 9 a.m.; and at the Winnipeg Art Gallery Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 6 p.m. Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea (Cinematheque, Saturday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.) This program of geocentric films includes the Manitoba première of
Deco Dawson’s playful portrait of surrealist Jean Benoit, which won the award for best short film at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Biography: Films by Prairie Women Filmmakers (Cinematheque, Sunday at 3 p.m.) A selection of short films from prairie artists including locals Danishka Esterhazy, Carole O’Brien, Paula Kelly and Coral Aiken. One Take Super-8 Event (Gas Station Theatre Sunday at 8 p.m.) As usual, the festival ends by kicking it old-school with some 27 films shot by a multitude of local artists on Super-8 movie cameras with the stipulation of no cuts and splices allowed.
