Young Ontarians dancing to RMTC in Billy Elliot role
TWO young Ontarians will share the lead role in Royal MTC’s production of Billy Elliot The Musical. Ethan Ribeiro of Kitchener will team up with Eamon Stocks of Whitby to play the young British ballet dancer in the Broadway hit that features music written by Elton John. The curtain goes up on the RMTC production Jan 12. It runs until Feb. 6.
Ribeiro appeared on the CHCH/Channel Zero show Tiny Talent Time and in the CanDance National Competition. Stocks trained at the National Ballet School Professional Ballet program and has had roles in film, TV and commercials.
They’ll receive dance training at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Professional Division before starting rehearsals in December.
Another Ontario performer, Carter Treneer, will play Billy’s best friend Michael. Winnipeg’s Katie Welham will play Debbie, a girl in Billy’s ballet class. Three other kids, Jack Mickelthwate, Demetri Apostolopoulos and Alexandre Deakin, play other kids in Billy’s community, a mining town in northern England.
Another 16 performers will be cast from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Recreational Division to share roles as dancers.
