Young On­tar­i­ans danc­ing to RMTC in Billy El­liot role

TWO young On­tar­i­ans will share the lead role in Royal MTC’s pro­duc­tion of Billy El­liot The Mu­si­cal. Ethan Ribeiro of Kitch­ener will team up with Ea­mon Stocks of Whitby to play the young Bri­tish bal­let dancer in the Broad­way hit that fea­tures mu­sic writ­ten by El­ton John. The cur­tain goes up on the RMTC pro­duc­tion Jan 12. It runs un­til Feb. 6.

Ribeiro ap­peared on the CHCH/Chan­nel Zero show Tiny Tal­ent Time and in the Can­Dance Na­tional Com­pe­ti­tion. Stocks trained at the Na­tional Bal­let School Pro­fes­sional Bal­let pro­gram and has had roles in film, TV and com­mer­cials.

They’ll re­ceive dance train­ing at the Royal Win­nipeg Bal­let School’s Pro­fes­sional Di­vi­sion be­fore start­ing re­hearsals in De­cem­ber.

Another On­tario per­former, Carter Tre­neer, will play Billy’s best friend Michael. Win­nipeg’s Katie Wel­ham will play Deb­bie, a girl in Billy’s bal­let class. Three other kids, Jack Mick­elth­wate, Demetri Apos­tolopou­los and Alexan­dre Deakin, play other kids in Billy’s com­mu­nity, a min­ing town in north­ern Eng­land.

Another 16 per­form­ers will be cast from the Royal Win­nipeg Bal­let’s Recre­ational Di­vi­sion to share roles as dancers.
