Sam’s CFL debut soon?
MONTREAL — Michael Sam will make his Montreal Alouettes debut some time in August, but head coach Tom Higgins did not say exactly when.
The Alouettes play Saturday in Calgary, but Higgins wouldn’t say if the defensive end will be in the lineup.
“He’s going to see the field in August, but we have five games in August, four on the road,” Higgins said Tuesday. “He is getting so much closer to being able to play.”
Sam, who became the first publicly gay player drafted by an NFL club when the St. Louis Rams picked him in 2014, signed a two-year contract with Montreal. The CFL team felt he needed at least a month of conditioning before he would be ready to play.
