Putting on THE RITZ
VIVA la glam! It is all about lavish, luxe looks for fall/winter 2010 and I can hardly wait to start shopping for this season’s hottest dress trends — call it a lust for luxurious textiles or a love for luminous embellishments, but this fashionista just adores an eye-catching, pretty frock.
According to glam gossip, those in the know at the various fall Fashion Week shows is that the latest styles on the runway were all about moving away from minimalist and reserved into glamorous and fabulous — without looking Gaga, if you catch my drift.
Think Golden Age of Hollywood meets modern-day urban chic, or perhaps classic sophistication meets streamlined, contemporary street — needless to say, eveningwear this season is not for the wallflower.
One of my favourite fall/winter 2012 fashion trends has to be lace, embroidery and brocade. So simply beautiful to look at and yet so intricate in craft and design — what’s not to love?
With a feel that’s at once romantic and feminine but also boldly extravagant and classic, this season’s lace-, embroidery- and brocade-adorned garments offer a touch of old-world embellishment with the best of new-world style with a bit of an in-your-face twist.
And it’s not all about glamour via needle and thread — opulent looks also take a prominent spot on the runway of real-life style this season. Yes, I’m talking about those sparkly textiles that you know you should really leave for evening, but boldly wear to the office anyway, with a confidence that is all yours.
Don’t be afraid to pair up a satin (or shiny) dress with a smart tailored jacket and some classic accessories such as grandma’s pearls, or simple sparkly studs, a leather attaché and pair of pumps in a bold hue.
Speaking of accessories, this fall is all about embracing that inner diva by adding a little more oomph to your ensemble.
A great way to do this is with some sleek leather gloves — they look fantastic with a cropped-sleeve sweater or light wool belted cape on an afternoon stroll — or opt for an oversized clutch, big enough to fit the day’s essential items and small enough to take you from day to night in a snap.
Whether you go with a touch of luxury or go all-out glam, it’s all about embracing a bit of diva this fall/winter… and after a few years of toning it down and keeping it lowkey, I think we all deserve a bit of fashion extravagance.
