Molly Karp

Jeans are an eternal closet staple, an affordable and versatile item still on the fashion market after decades. No wonder every generation has continued to buy them since the 1950s. Molly Karp a student of the Communications program at University of Winnipeg, is no exception. Karp hopes to work in public relations, “ideally providing a voice and representation for a non-profit or charitable organization,” she says, standing next to her bike on Portage Avenue. “Something where I’m using my language skills to facilitate change for the better.”

What she wore...

JACKET — “Value Village; I loved it when I saw it.” BLOUSE — Three People Attire JEANS — “They’re J brand from Aritzia.” SHOES — Browns BRACELET — Juicy NECKLACE — Redd Line Jewelry BAG — “It’s Matt & Nat. I got it in Vancouver when I was there on vacation with my family.”

Fashion essential

“High-waisted jeans — they pull everything together. You can make anything look good with a pair of jeans. I shop at Danali because they have a lot of variety. They know what they’re talking about when it comes to denim. Fall happens to be my favorite fashion season. What I really like about this time of year is the warm and neutral colours that are associated with the season.”

Style inspiration

“I like fashion blogs; I find a lot of inspiration from canadastreetstyle.com. What I appreciate is good-quality clothing. I like things that are durable and timeless, things I’ll be able to pull out of my closet 20 years from now. It gets back to the jeans — having a quality pair of jeans can give you that timeless look. I really like Winnipeg’s style, a lot of people care about their fashion here and we have unique boutiques that really represent Winnipeg’s style and culture.”

Fashion tip

“Keep your look natural and effortless as possible while at the same time looking put-together and unique.”
