Norah Jones The dish: The end of Jones’ latest relationship has put her in such a brokenhearted, vengeful mood she imagines murdering her partner’s new lover. Lyrics: “Oh Miriam, that’s such a pretty name/and I’ll keep saying it until you die/ Mariam, you know you done me wrong/ I’m gonna smile when you say goodbye/ You know you done me wrong/I’m going to smile when I take your life.” Target: Her former partner’s new girlfriend, Miriam (although Jones has not confirmed this is the woman’s real name).

Katy Perry The dish: Perry’s new auto-biographical tale deals with her divorce from comedian Russell Brand, but in the lyrics she says she has landed on her feet. You knew she would (and seriously, did anybody really expect that marriage to last?). Lyrics: “I wish I knew then what I know now/I wouldn’t dive in/I wouldn’t bow down/Gravity hurts/You made it so sweet/Till I woke up on/On the concrete.” Target: Russell Brand.

Kathleen Edwards The dish: A wistful lament about her marriage to musician/producer Colin Cripps. Lyrics: “Looking back it was such a dumb idea/Five girls in the samecoloured dress/Book a honeymoon and find yourself thinking/My life is a perfect mess.” Target: Ex-husband Colin Cripps.

Pink The dish: The temporary split between Pink and her husband, motocross star Carey Hart. They got back together and he even appears in the video. Lyrics: “I guess I just lost my husband/I don’t know where he went/So I’m gonna drink my money/I’m not gonna pay his rent.” Target: Carey Hart.
