THE Imax theatre at Portage Place will go out the way it came in, screening the made-in-Manitoba film Heartland on its final day of operation on Sunday, March 31.

The screenings will take place at 12 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Admission is free.

While the Portage Place Imax screen was substantially bigger than the rival Imax screen at Silver City Polo Park, it could not compete because it was denied bookings of first-run Imax releases. Its closure was announced in January.

The 1987 film Heartland, shot specifically for the Portage Place venue, features homegrown images including a ballet pas-de-deux by Royal Winnipeg Ballet stars Evelyn Hart and Andre Lewis and animation by Richard Condie.
