How kindness got Copper home

Winnipeg Free Press - Section G - - THE SOCIAL PAGE -

My 13 year-old dog, Copper, took a stroll outside the yard and down the back lane. He somehow ended up on Academy Road.

Several kind people along his journey tried to identify him and help by getting Winnipeg Lost Dogs (Facebook page), the Humane Society and Winnipeg animal services involved.

Once they had identified Copper, I began receiving phone calls from an array of people giving me location updates on where I might find my poor, old boy. Then they helped look for him.

The staff person at Perth’s on Academy in particular along with their business neighbors tried to help him by letting him in their establishment. Had it not been for them, or that awesome Facebook page, or other neighbors calling the pound, I don’t know what could have happened to Copper, our family pet for 13 years.

I am so grateful to them all for taking the time out of their lives to help an old dog find his way home. I can’t express how important their actions were to me.

There is a kindness in people that we sometimes forget.

Thank you to all who helped Copper get home — and kept another old dog happy.
